Quick Tips

  • Peanut butter rubbed into the coat before the shampooing helps to remove oil and grease.

  • If your dog is touchy about you trimming his toenails, try turning him backwards.  Many dogs are fine if they can't see what you are doing.

  • Put a dog on a leash and a cat in a crate if taking them to the Vet, groomer, or to the shelter. This can prevent them from running off and make them manageable if they become startled.

  • Do not allow your dog to run loose while in the car.  If you do not have a crate or a dog harness, put them on leash and shut the car door on the leash.

  • Teach your dog to sit at the door and to wait until you tell them OK before they can go out the door.  This can prevent the dog from bolting out an open door and escaping from you.

  • Using a crate and feeding on a schedule makes house training much easier.

  • Keep your dog socialized to help prevent dog bites.

  • Teach your children how to behave around a dog.  Children should not bother a dog's toys or food.

  • If you have a child and a dog, SUPERVISE, SUPERVISE, SUPERVISE.

  • When your pet is missing notify the shelter right away.

  • Put an ID tag on your pet, or have them microchipped so that you can be notified if they become lost.

  • Use only pet shampoo for your pet.  Some soaps can be toxic to your pet.

  • Some people foods can be toxic to pets.  Avoid feeding Alcoholic beverages, Avocado, Chocolate (all forms), Coffee (all forms),  Fatty foods, Macadamia nuts, Moldy or spoiled foods, Onions, onion powder, Raisins and grapes, Salt, Yeast dough, Garlic, and Products sweetened with Xylitol

  • Insecticides, even flea and tick products can be toxic to pets.  Follow directions carefully.

  • Do not give people medicines or any medicine without consulting your Vet.  Many medications such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen can be harmful to pet.

  • Many  plants can be harmful to pets. Check immediately with your Vet if your pet has eat a plant.
