The Humane Society of Washington County is a non-profit organization, composed solely of volunteers. The Society's goals include educating the public regarding humane treatment of animals, reducing pet over-population and assisting the Salem Animal Shelter. The Society is working toward its goals with the following programs:
Spay/Neuter Assistance Program
-assists Washington County residents with the costs of surgery to have their pets altered. Vouchers are given to persons who need the assistance. Voucher amounts are $15.00 for a cat, $25.00 for a dog.Assistance is also given to local persons adopting animals from the Salem Animal Shelter. This program was designed to lower the costs for people adopting from the Shelter: thus increasing adoptions.
Local persons are also able to work off the normal cost of their pet's surgery, by donation work-hours at the Shelter. For more information about this program call the Shelter at 883-3673.
Ita Colglazier Educational/Awareness Program
-provides educational materials to the school. Primarily the schools receive monthly magazines that promote humane treatment of animals.Assistance to the Salem Animal Shelter-
assistance with animal care needs, emergency care, collect and promote donations of supplies, advertising to increase adoptions, feed City animals (per agreement).
Meetings
-are held monthly at the Salem Methodist Church in the basement, on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.
